Who we are
MC London is a private, invitation-only community for Malaysians living in London. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have over it. We are the data controller for the information described below.
What we collect
- Waitlist: the email address you submit when requesting to join.
- Your profile: the details you choose to add once invited — name, age, area of London, whether you study or work, your profession, a short bio, and your interests.
- Account & sign-in: we use passwordless “magic link” sign-in. Your email address and a user identifier are stored by our authentication provider.
- Activity: the events you RSVP to, and events you create if you are a host.
- Technical: standard server logs, plus privacy-friendly, aggregate usage analytics that do not use cookies or track you across other sites.
How we use it
- To review waitlist requests and manage invitations.
- To run membership and events — RSVPs, guest lists, and event reminders.
- To show your profile to other members (the community is built on mutual visibility).
- To send you transactional emails such as invitations, event notices, and reminders.
Legal basis
Under UK data protection law we rely on your consent for the waitlist, and on performance of our membership arrangement and our legitimate interest in running the community for member profiles, events, and related emails. You can withdraw consent or object at any time (see Your rights).
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers that operate this site on our behalf:
- Our database and authentication provider (hosting your records in the EU).
- Our email delivery provider (to send the emails described above).
- Our hosting and analytics provider.
Other members can see the profile information you add. Please only share what you are comfortable with other members seeing.
Cookies
We use only the essential cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and our usage analytics are cookieless.
How long we keep it
We keep your profile and account data for as long as you are a member. If you delete your account, your profile, RSVPs, and (if you are a host) the events you created are removed. Waitlist entries are kept until they are reviewed or you ask us to remove them.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict how we use it. You can:
- Edit your details any time on your profile page.
- Delete your account yourself from your profile (this erases your data as above).
- Contact us at hello@mclondon.co.uk for any other request.
If you are in the UK and have a concern we cannot resolve, you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access to member records is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
MC London is intended for adults. You must be 18 or over to join.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above.
